A Descent Into Madness

Charlotte Perkins Gilmans, The Yellow Wall study, is narrated by a woman who is suffering from a form of depression, and upon her husbands advice, goes to stay at a summer house to relax and escape the troubles of everyday life. In this house, the narrator finds a dwell decorated in paper she does not particularly like. It is in her relationship with the paper that we kindle map her inevitable descent into madness. Beginning with a bulletproof dislike and irritation of the wallpaper, following a dangerous supine impulse with it and leading to hallucinations, we can observe the narrators filiation into insanity.
